Wasting time

I am at lunch right now and all I can think about is gardening.  This Sat. it's supposed to be 65 here in Reno.  I don't know if it's too early for peas and lettuce, but I'm sure gonna try!

But, for right this minute, I'm wasting time.  Blogging.  Because I can't stop thinking about gardening.

In light of recent events... aka, the flood of 2012 ... we've spent a lot of time living in a construction zone.  It's getting better and I should/will post pictures soon.

We recently went to San Francisco for Jack's 29th birthday.  It was nice to spend uninterrupted time together.  There were about a million people there (for President's Day weekend), so we spent a lot of time pushing our way through crowds.  But, our hotel was next to a really great area and in that great area we had the best food experience of our lives.  :)  Success.

Reality vs. Spring Dreams

January.  

I always want to believe we are smack dab in the middle of winter.  But, in Reno, Spring won't roll around for another few months.  I'm itching.  Itching to garden and plant and see little buds grow into edibles.  I just went through a seed catalog and wrote down probably $200+ worth of seeds I'd like to buy.

HOW COOL IS THAT?!  Seriously.

It's called Longkeeper Tomato.  Apparently you can keep these on a shelf for up to THREE MONTHS.  WHAT?!  That means RIGHT NOW I could be eating a fresh tomato from the garden if I had these bad boys.

Needless to say, I need to whittle down my list.  But, I think I will buy these two, at least.  Because they are awesome.  

Seed catalogs are suuuper cool.  Who knew?!

I think I'm also going to try winter sowing.  Basically you use milk jugs, soda jugs, water jugs, etc. as mini greenhouses for seeds.  You leave the lids off and stick the seeds in their greenhouses outside.  Supposedly the seeds grow healthier and sturdier and you don't have to harden the seedlings off when it's time to plant.  Really, I just don't have the room inside to start all my seeds, which is why I'm going to try this.

We finally decided on one thing:  guestroom paint color

It's the Mystical Sea that will go on the walls.  I know, I know, it's definitely NOT charcoal, but nothing will come out of pocket. 

We made another decision, too.  Tonight.  About 20 minutes ago.

In order to get the cabinets in the kitchen the way we want them and not have any money come out of pocket, we've decided to keep our same flooring.  A little boring, I know, but we'd rather have our kitchen the way we want than get different flooring.
